Types of Log Furniture

When you are shopping online with Frontier Log Furniture you will find many different types of log furniture.  Our log furniture selection ranges from Pine, Hickory, Cedar and Aspen log species.  All of the materials we use for our products are obtained with environmentally friendly harvesting practices.  Determining the style you are looking for in your house will help you determine the type of log furniture that will best fit your needs.  Pine log furniture is the species of wood that Frontier Log Furniture primarily builds its products from.  It has very unique characteristics that allow the furniture to take on its own identity. Pine log furniture has different colors and shapes that can be constructed into almost any custom piece of furniture that you can imagine.  We have been in business for over 35 years and have used our time tested construction techniques to build pine log railing and furniture throughout the world.  Hickory furniture is a very dense tight barked hardwood that has quite different characteristics than pine.  Hickory log furniture can be steamed and bent into various different shapes to fit your exact needs.  It is a bit smaller in nature, which makes the furniture not as heavy or big as pine log furniture.  Some people prefer to have bigger log and some prefer a smaller log when they choose their log bed, log bunk bed or chair.  Both Hickory and Pine log furniture can be stained or finished in various different types of finish to give you an exact color match or look for your existing products.  Cedar log furniture has a soft smooth appearance and often has many different types of curved and twisted branches to give you a natural forked appearance.  It also uses a bigger diameter log in its furniture construction, giving Cedar Log Beds and Bunk beds a massive, grand appearance.  Aspen log furniture is much harder than Cedar or Pine, but has a similar appearance and style as Cedar Furniture.  Pine, Hickory, Cedar and Aspen logs can all be formed to build your dream creation.  Frontier Log Furniture looks forward to providing our product for next home; project or commercial building.

How To Make Log Furniture

Frontier Log furniture is made by selecting dead standing lodgepole pine logs that are salvaged from the forest.  A team of our log furniture craftsmen will select these pine logs based on unique character and solid appearance to limit the amount of cracking or checking.  After we select a large amount of the logs, we will cut them to a standard length and bring them back to our log furniture workshop.  We then stack them according to log diameter and natural characteristics.  When our log furniture is ordered by a customer, we bring our logs into the workshop to dry.  Pine logs by nature will crack a little bit more during the drying process thus giving each log an even more unique look.  After the drying process, our craftsmen will build each log furniture piece to the exact design specifics of our customer.  We have three different types of log finish.  One finish is called a skip peel finish, which means that the log is hand peeled by or craftsmen leaving a little of the log bark remaining.  Another finish is called a clean peel finish, which means that the log is hand peeled leaving no log bark remaining.  The final finish is called the rustic bark finish, which means that we leave the tight bark on the log and sand off the loose bark that remains.   All three finish types are unique in that they all offer a completely different log look.  Once the bark has been peeled or sanded we take each log and cut it to its proper length.   The final steps of the log furniture process include doweling each log and fitting them in their precise location according to our log furniture plans.   Frontier Log Furniture offers more than eighty standard log furniture designs and can build custom designs to fit your exact needs.  Our skilled log craftsmen have over 100 years of combined log furniture manufacturing experience and they look forward to building your dream piece.

Our Glacier log bunk bed is a a truly unique piece that is build from lodgepole pine and has the ladder incorporated right into the foot board. You can get this style in a number of configurations from twin over twin to extra long twin over queen styles.
